Theory

The hydro cyclone (or cyclone) is a piece of equipment which utilizes fluid pressure energy to create rotational fluid motion. This rotational motion causes relative movement of materials suspended in the fluid thus permitting separation of these materials, one from another or from the fluid. The rotation is produced by tangential injection of the fluid into a vessel. Hydro cyclone are often including several parts which are: inlet (it could be simple, helical, Single-entry and multiple-entry and …), main body (cylinder-cylinder, cylinder-cone and cylinder-cone-cone which the angle of cone acc. to required spec is selected), and vortex finder (cylindrical part for overflow).

What we do

  • The mechanism of hydro cyclone is based on the principle of centrifugal force causing the separation of heavy phase from light phase by the differences in density and particle size. As the fluid is injected to hydro cyclone tangentially, it moves downward and near the wall but gradually and because of pressure loss, light phase is driven to center and upward to exit from overflow; heavy phase maintains its downward and near wall moving to exit from under flow.
